Walk around Caversham, 3.3 miles

24 January 2016

Left the house, walked up Peppard Road a way and turned right into Derby Road. We'd spotted one of these newish houses in Derby Villas in the Chronicle property pages and Ruth had expressed interest, so I said I'd show her where it actually was, as despite having lived in Caversham a while now she appears to retain little local street knowledge.

Derby Villas

Derby Road is a reasonably exclusive road that's labelled no access to through traffic, though you can walk down it. Found this website for the Derby Road community, though whoever maintains it could do with going on a course, judging by this example of an attempt to cram as many font sizes and hues as possible onto one page:

After lurking outside the Derby Villas property briefly, we continued, turning left into Grosvenor Road and returning to Peppard Road. Walked a bit further up, crossed and walked along Surley Row and out onto Rotherfield Way. Strode manfully up Oakley Road (bit of a hill) to Albert Road. Crossed Albert and walked down Highmoor, crossing the A4074 Woodcote Road. Turned left into St Peter's Avenue and walked down to The Warren with a brief detour into Wychcotes.

Returned to Caversham centre via St Peter's churchyard and Caversham Court Gardens.
