It is currently, by UK standards, extremely hot. Officially being referred to as a ‘heatwave’. Weather apps are filled with sun icons and unlikely temperatures.

Much as it seems churlish to complain, I’m wishing it would go away now. The forecast is currently dropping tantalizing hints about how thunderstorms and torrential downpours may be on their way, but nothing yet in Milton Keynes. This clip taken in Doncaster has been posted on the BBC News site. Lucky sods.

BBC News currently has a dedicated ‘Sweltering Britain’ section, and there are the inevitable comparisons with the heatwave of 1976.

And some warnings re shortages of essential foodstuffs.

Yesterday (the 33° snip above) was a bit of a scorcher; today feels very slightly cooler but it’s still pretty hot. Currently BBC Weather is promising rain and cooler temperatures over the weekend. Am keeping fingers crossed.
